Music therapy drumming

Elementary School & University Residencies/Inservices
I am available as a solo guest artist to teach many facets of world drumming techniques/rhythms/curriculum for both students and teachers. I can also team teach with a dancer from Dunuya Drum & Dance to offer a more authentic setting of drum/dance curriculum, combining traditional movement choreography with cultural rhythms. These workshops can also culminate in a combined performance event with Dunuya Drum & Dance and your students. Workshops can be multiple hours, day-long, or multiple days, according to your needs. I have provided a number of inservices to public school music teachers in Kalamazoo County and the Grand Rapids public schools. References available on request.
Group Drumming Experientials
I host one community drum jam per month at “Fire” on Portage Road for families and adults with an interest in exploring rhythm and drumming in a group context. I also offer programs for Red Tent Community, Women Empowering Women, MRC Industries, and various other group/gatherings or special events where you’d like to ‘experience’ drum circle culture. My focus is on collective listening and creative improvisation. I do not use the Arthurian model of drum circle facilitation for community music-making. Music for Memorial Services
As a hospice music therapist, I have a large repertoire of sacred and popular music available to provide special music for your customized memorial service. I can also provide instrumental gathering/exit music, or even lead congregational singing, where applicable. In such event that you are seeking assistance in creating a memorial that doesn’t quite “ fit the mold” I can offer my colleague, Lisa Kistler, as a resource in designing backyard memorials and other ‘non-traditional’ settings. You don’t have to honor your loved one according to someone else’s model.
Studio Recording
“Those aren’t my rules”…..If you want something fresh for your own music/recording project, I am happy to help. Not every song needs a boom-chic drum-set beat. Sometimes, a little organic percussion is just the life it needs. Please don’t hesitate to inquire, I’ve worked on all kinds of musical projects with all sorts of folks, and we find some great soul inside of their songs in the end.
